On 16th May, Keele Postgraduate Association (KPA) and Lavinia Ioana Udrea (Keele Ph.D Student and KPA Environmental Officer) opened Keele in Spring Photography Exhibition in the KPA Clubhouse. The exhibition celebrated spring season at Keele and emphasised the important role that environment plays in student life.

Over 50 students and staff came to see and appreciate students’ work of art and the beauty of nature. Keele in Spring Photography Exhibition contained 24 photographs and 14 student photographers were involved in the project to share their passion and rise environmental awareness amongst the exhibition guests.

KPA received a very good feedback for organising this project and decided to keep Keele in Spring Photography Exhibition open to the public for the entire month of May.

“I am happy that I managed to bring all these people together and discovered that Keele students are so motivated to get involved in this kind of projects that make them realize how important they are for our community.” -  Lavinia Ioana Udrea (Keele Ph.D Student and KPA Environmental Officer)

VOTE Lavinia Ioana Udrea to be your ENVIRONMENTAL REPRESENTATIVE!!!

My name is Lavinia and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Ethics at Keele University. I've decided to run for the Environmental Rep. position because I've a deep passion for the environment and it seems that I can't help myself to get all proactive and involved in student activities. It's in my blood and I can't deny it!

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors;
We borrow it from our children”
Chief Seattle

I wish to dedicate myself to the practical implementation of University' sustainability policies, while inspiring and representing Keele students' interests. My contribution to KeeleSU is my past experience as a Students' Representative and my motivation to promote awareness of environmental and sustainability issues.

“Those who love and free nature are never alone.” - Rachel Carson

The most fascinating volunteer experience of my life, when dealing with environmental issues, was to be part of the Pacific Whale Foundation in Hawaii, USA. There, I participated in many community events and helped out in the education, research and conservation programs.

My TOP 4 future initiatives... as an Environmental Representative
1.      to organize the Raising and Giving Week (RAG Week)
This is a traditional charity fundraising event at Keele that should become a must-have experience in the life of every student.

2.     to implement the GREENman Project
This will be an open space for all Keele students who are welcomed to brainstorm and design environmental and sustainability projects to be implemented in the Keele community.

3.     to promote the Keele Student's Open Market
In order to prove that Keele Students are committed to sourcing local organic food,
we will start an Open Market Initiative. We are interested to show that the Student Community can become entirely self-sustaining in terms of fruit and vegetables.

  1. to build a Communication Platform for Environmental Issues
I plan to establish a full-time collaboration with all Keele pro-environmental groups, societies, associations and centers (KPA, Student Eats, Think Green Society, The Sustainable Hub, the Learning and Professional Development Centre, etc.), in order to create an easy-to-access communication platform to be used by all Keele Students that want to get involved in environmental and sustainability activities.

As an Environmental Representative, I will:
  •  promote awareness of environmental, sustainability and ethical issues at KUSU and University level, and at national level to the National Union of Students (NUS).
  •  work to ensure that the Keele students’ interests are realized to their full potential from an environmental and ethical position.
  • ensure that off-campus students are informed about environmental and sustainability events, activities and related issues.
  • provide advice to all Keele Students, KUSU committees and organizations on the environmental consequences and costs of their policies and actions.

"The earth is what we all have in common" - Wendell Berry.

I have chosen these logo and motto for my campaign because I believe that even if we come from different cultures and maybe sometimes we can have different opinions, nature and earth will be forever ours and it is the thing that can bring us together.
VOTE!!! Lavinia Ioana Udrea to be your Environmental Rep. !
